Why Gas Safety Inspections Are Needed
To achieve compliance with the Victorian Residential Tenancies Act.
Gas safety inspections include:
- Carbon monoxide (CO) testing
- Servicing of fixed gas appliances per AS 4575
- Installation checks of fixed gas appliances per AS 5601.1
You will get an automatic notification when the next checks are due. If tenant or property details have changed, let us know and checks will be booked with new tenants.
Your gasfitter must be a registered or licensed plumber. You should check their accreditation number on VBA’s license checker here: https://consumer.etoolbox.pic.vic.gov.au/_layouts/cc/pic_validatepp.aspx. If they are a registered gasfitter, the report must include the licensed gasfitter who supervised the work.

The gas safety reports of our partners are modelled precisely with VBA’s recommended guidelines:
- Gas safety checks every 2 years
- Gas servicing reports as mandated by AS 4575
- Gas installation checks as mandated by AS 5601.1
- 7 year digital compliance trail as mandated by legislation
Gas safety checks in Victoria must be carried out by either a registered or licensed gasfitter. A registered gasfitter’s reports must be signed off by a licensed gasfitter and the report must include accreditation numbers of both gasfitters. You should check their accreditation with the VBA.
LPG gas bottles and installations are part of standard gas safety checks. Our gas services partners do not service or attend to rooming houses.
